  3. Objectives 1. To analyse the nature and type of socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals and households. 2. To provide effective suggestions for the government to establish corrective policy measures so as to reduce these adverse impacts.

  4. Research Questions • The direct impact of HIV on poverty, migration and inequality (including gender and access financial services). • The impact on labour supply due to morbidity and death. • The comparison of the income and expenditure of the HIV/AIDS affected households and non-HIV/AIDS affected households. • The stigma and discrimination associated with the disease reduces the efficacy of the policy intervention and exacerbate the negative impacts of the disease.

The main content of the questionnaires • The basic information of lived/deceased members of the household • The past and current status of family members • The status of the household member above 6 years old during any normal working day • The income, education, health, day-to-day expenditure and other expenses of household in 2007, financial burden of HIV/AIDS, coping mechanism, living conditions, government and non-government support • The status of the community and family environment • Participation and awareness • Issues relating to HIV-positive women (burden of care) • Stigma and discrimination • Health and sanitation • Quality of lives
