Never use sarcastic or disrespectful terminology or phrases.
Never use profanity.
Never embarrass a student in front of others.
Students should address you as Mrs., Mr., Ms., or Miss.

Act confidently.
Speak with assurance and authority.
Be able to laugh at your own mistakes.
Avoid speaking negatively about students, teachers, classes or schools.
It can be damaging and may result in fewer opportunities to substitute.

Dressing professionally lets students know that you are serious about their education and your work.

When you are called, be sure to ask if there are special activities or events scheduled for the date you will substitute.

In the majority of situations, lesson plans will be provided, and it is expected that substitutes will follow the planned lessons as prescribed.

When you check-in at the school office, ask for any information that will make your day more successful and give you and the students the best chance for a successful day.
