Belgorod from its birth Belgorod is one of the oldest towns in the country.The first settlements of slavs were established on the Seversky Donets River in the 11th century.By the 16th century the fortress was built on the chalky mointain, that’s why it was called “Whitetown”
Belgorod from its birth In the 18th century Belgorod became the chief administrative centre of region comprising the Belgorod,the Oryol and the Kursk, provinces with their 35 towns and cities and a population of 1,146,000.
Belgorod in world war I In 1903 a group of the Russian Social Democratic Labour party was founded in Belgorod. On October 26,1917,Soviet Power was proclaimed in Belgorod a few hours later than in Petrograd. On November 19,1919, the First Mounted Army was organised in Velikomikhailovka. In January,1920, the Army liberated Belgorod.
Belgorod in Word war II On October 24,1941, Belgorod was occupied. In the summer of 1943 a great battle was Fought of Prokhorovka. On August 5,1943.Moscow fired a salute in honour of the liberation of Belgorod for the first time.
Belgorod as an industrial centre Belgorod has a number of industrial enterprises: Power Engineering Works,the Metal Constraction Works, the Cement Plant, the Milling-Cutter Factory, the Cannery, the Furniture Factory, the Shoe factory, the Farmacutical Company “Verofarm” and others.
