  1. TA1 Gas Section Work Current Status Future Progress Monitoring

  2. Ongoing work • AICE TPC: • Software tests have started. • CMS Distribution: • We had a problem with some NBR joints -> they were damaged due to “over compression”. The modification is ongoing. Finished by Feb. 04 • RPC Endcap racks will be finished in Dec. • Mixer Construction starting Jan. (+ 1 month) • ATLAS Construction starting March (+ 2 month) • Hold ups in validation of components • Component cleaning with EST is not operational (at earliest March 03) (+ 6 month) • New Lab Bldg 164 finished in Feb 04.

  3. Milestones

  4. Simple Manpower Calculation Note: This estimates accounts only the labor for rack assembly and installation. Engineering and physicist manpower is not included. The remaining 21.2 man-years have to be completed until mid 2006 (in 2.5 years), that means every 6 months we must complete work for the equivalent of ~4.0 man-years. At the moment we are a factor 2 to 3 below, but the manpower will increase over the next months.

  5. Proposal for Progress Monitoring • Collect all the schedule data from the 4 experiments (ongoing) • Define a few system specific milestones for each experiments. • Define some milestones related to the module construction. • Monitor the amount of work completed in periods of 6 months. By March 2004 we can have revised schedule and detailed proposal for the progress reporting.

  6. This Requires some further Clarifications: Reducing the non LHC work to < 1man-year/year. (was 2.5 my’s in 2002, and 1.5my’s in 2003) • User requirements (design Documents) shall be approved documents in EDMS. • Modifications will require “ECR” • Our team must reduce the installation work in the pits to the minimum possible (example: CMS) • Bottlenecks (e.g. cleaning, component validation, mechanical engineering) in the construction must addressed and removed. • QC program put in place.
