1692 Salem witch trials • This project is on the late 1600 Salem witch trials, and is a DBMG production. If any portion or part of this material is copied without written permission, the culprits will be punished by atomic wedgies. • A project by Devan Boutte’, Bryan Syphoe, Mathew Bowling, and Grant Autler.
In 1692 Salem was controlled under British rule. • The two divisions that existed between the people in society of Salem is Salem Town and Salem Village. • Salem Village wanted to gain independence from Salem town. Salem farmers were determined to find good places to grow crops so that the village could survive. • Tensions grew worse when Salem Village selected Rev. Samuel Parris as their minster.
Family life • The female’s responsibility in this society was household chores. • The male’s job was manual labor (gathering firewood, blacksmiths, and ministry) • It was our opinion that the family lifestyle was very dull for a young male or female. • Families were required to attend weekly religious services in honor of the Sabbath.
Witchcraft • People became accused of witchcraft when someone would die and there was no explanation of how that person died. • The people who did the accusing were the people whose family experienced these unexplainable deaths. • The people who were accused, and were proven guilty of committing witchcraft were either hung or put in jail. • Nineteen people were hung, and over one hundred fifty people were imprisoned or arrested in the Salem Witch Craft Trials. • The people who started the entire witchcraft conspiracy were Abigail Williams and Elizabteth Parris. This is because they started to have seizures and mysterious spells that they could not explain .
