GOALS: Significantly improve the ability (1) to characterize and predict ocean impact of typhoons in Westpac and (2) improve typhoon prediction Basic science objective: Understand processes governing how a typhoon interacts with the ocean structure, the feedbacks to the atmosphere and storm intensity focussing on the Western Pacific. Typhoons Impact Upper Ocean Thermal Structure Six Months/Year Numbers of Typhoons Per Year X Each Storm Has A 1-2 week impact on Ocean Thermal Structure Major Potential Impact On Mixed Layer Depth

THANK YOU ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDING SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT TO ITOP
Very Special Thanks To Air Force The 53rd WRS provided help and encouragement, in the planning process, helped secure Air Force support when it became clear the Air Force could not accept Navy funding, and then conducted the Experiment in their highly professional manner, as usual.
