Design and Construction of an Induction Furnace(Cooling System) Presented By Mg Thant Zin Win Roll No: Ph.D-M-7 2nd Seminar 16.6.2004
Review on 1st Seminar • Classification of Furnace • Basic Principle of Induction Heating • Induction Furnace Coils and Water Piping System
Four Parts Divided in 2nd Seminar • Objective • Types of Cooling Water System • Selection of System • Conclusion
Objective • To consider and select the suitable water cooling system among the various forms of water cooling plants for a coreless induction furnace
Types of Cooling Water System • Open-circuit system with evaporative cooling-tower • Fan-radiator (closed-circuit) system • Dual system with Water/Water heat exchanger • Dual system with closed-circuit cooling-tower
1.Open-circuits System with Evaporative Cooling-tower • Advantages • Simplicity • Low capital cost • Disadvantages • Water is lost by evaporation. • Airborne dust and impurities are drawn into the tower.
2.Fan-raditor (Closed-circuit) System • Advantages • Water circuit can be made completely enclose. • Loss of water is slight. • Disadvantages • Radiators are large for a given thermal duty. • Radiator fins are subject to blockage by atmospheric dust, and may be difficulty to clean.
3.Dual System with Water/Water Heat Exchanger • Advantages • The water/water heat exchanger is more compact and easier to clean and maintain than the fan-radiator system. • Disadvantages • A primary source of cooling water is required.
4.Dual System with Closed-circuit Cooling-tower • Advantages • Water/water heat exchanger is eliminated. • Piping and pumping costs are lower than in conventional tower with heat exchanger. • Disadvantages • Slightly more expansive than conventional tower with heat exchanger.
Selection of System • Furnace size • Furnace environment • Local water Board regulation • Nature of water supply available • Local noise-control requirements-particularly at night • Cost
Conclusion • Open-circuit system with evaporative cooling-tower • Fan-radiator (closed-circuit) system • Dual system with Water/Water heat exchanger • Dual system with closed-circuit cooling-tower • What do you choose the water cooling system to construct a Coreless Induction Furnace?
