Specific ChemicalsC(87)2, C(73)172, C(71)83, C(96)42 Accepts • PCB • Mercury • Lead Existing measures to reduce risks from these chemicals include: • Ban on PCB oils for transformers and requiring the safe disposal of existing ones • Elimination of alkyl mercury compounds for agriculture, and mercury compounds in the paper and pulp industry • Restrictions on Lead in paints, gasoline, toys etc.

These recommendations will be incorporated specifically in the future chemical registration system to be implemented by 2013.

International Conventions and Agreements • The Montreal Protocol - Israel signed, ratified and implements the Montreal Protocol and its subsequent amendments • The Rotterdam Convention - Israel signed the Rotterdam convention in 1999 and intends to ratify by 2010 • Basel Convention - Israel has ratified the Basel Convention on the transboundary movement of hazardous waste in 1994

International Conventions and Agreements • SAICM – Israel participates in SAICM and is committed to its goals • The Stockholm Convention -Israel signed the Convention in 2001 and intends to proceed with its ratification and currently preparing its national implementation plan • all chemicals in annexes A and B are banned in Israel
