  1. sOLAR ENERGY By: Anastasia Williams

  2. SOLAR ENERGY Going solar is one of the best things you can do for yourself, your home, your wallet and the planet. Solar energy is energy made from sunlight. Light from the sun may be used to make electricity from solar panels to provide heating and cooling for building and to heat water.

  3. PROS. • Easy to make. • Clean to use. • In the long run it’s a lot cheaper than the electricity you buy from an electricity company. • Maintenance free, energy saving, environmental friendly.

  4. CONS. • Initial price is expensive. • Its sole dependence is on the sun.

  5. HOW SOLAR ENERGY IS PRODUCED • Solar panels capture sunlight and convert it to something called DC electricity, or direct current electricity. • The solar panels then convert that energy to an AC (alternating current) that then powers your home or buildings. • When the sun shines, the electricity travels from the panels through wires into a piece of equipment called an inverter. An inverter converts the energy made from the panels into the energy you need to use for your house. • At night when your panels are not on and generating electricity you continue to be able to use electricity that your panels store away.

  6. Video • How it works

  7. Website link • Solar Energy Fun Facts

  8. Fun facts • Did you know?...Scientist have discovered that the fur and skin of polar bears are very effctive at converting sunshine into heat energy. • Did you know?...Statistics show that sunlight travels to the earth in approximately 8 minutes from 93,000,000 miles away, at 186,282 miles per second. • Did you know?...Shell Oil predicts that 50% of the world's energy will come from renewable sources by 2040. Lets hope so!.
