  6. MAINTENACE PRODUCTION WITHIN CATEGORIES • PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE • CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE • MODIFICATION, CALIBRATION • REBUILD, CONVERSION, MODERNIZATION

  7. CATEGORIES • Organizational, 1st and 2nd echelon • Intermediate, 3rd and 4th echelon • Depot, 5th echelon

  8. MAINTENANCE AUTHORITY • Where can we find our unit’s maintenance authority at? • Who can grant us authority to exceed our maintenance capabilities?

  9. ORGANIZATIONAL MAINTENANCE • Contains first and second echelons of maintenance

  10. FIRST ECHELON • Performed by user or operator • Proper care, use, and operation of equipment • as prescribed by order and directive • Minor repairs, testing, ect

  11. SECOND ECHELON • Work performed by specially trained mechanic or technician • In the organization possessing the capabilities and facilities • Inspect, Diagnosis, and isolation of problems • PMCS, repair and replace, evacuate

  12. INTERMEDIATE MAINTENANCE • Contains third and fourth echelons of maintenance • Within the Service Support Group • In direct support of the organizations • Can authorize selective interchange to themselves

  13. THIRD ECHELON • Authorized by publication • By specially trained mechanics or technicians • Removal and replacement of modular components (?) • Can be accomplished via contact teams • Evacuation to fourth echelon

  14. FOURTH ECHELON • Repair/rebuild of sub-assemblies, assemblies, and major items • Diagnosis and isolation of malfunctions to the internal piece part level • At a semi-fixed facility

  15. FIFTH ECHELON • Complete rebuild or overhaul • Repair items which exceed the capabilities of the units • Nondestructive test on items • Special inspections and modifications
