  2. General • The HP Scitex TJ8300 Maintenance is divided into 3 types: • Daily Maintenance – procedures that must be performed on a daily basis • Weekly Maintenance – procedures that must be performed once a week • As Needed Maintenance – procedures that must be performed on an as-needed basis Confidential

  3. Daily Maintenance • Monitoring the ink level in the ink containers • Verifying the ink level in the primary ink tanks • Cleaning the inkjet heads • Cleaning the drum and gripper • Cleaning the bridge stepper motor cylinders Confidential

  4. Daily Maintenance (Cont.) • Monitoring the ink level in the ink containers Confidential

  5. Daily Maintenance (Cont.) • Verifying the ink level in the primary ink tanks • The ink level in the six primary ink tanks can be verified by visually checking the attached Ink Level Indicator located at the rear of the left side of each tank: • At the beginning of each workday, to ensure that there was no overnight leakage • Throughout the workday, during normal printer operation Confidential

  6. Daily Maintenance (Cont.) • Cleaning the Inkjet heads • This procedure includes an automatic process activated by the system software and the manual cleaning of the inkjet heads. • The IJ heads should be cleaned during a workday, as follows: • Start of the workday • Between jobs • After any 30-minute break in printing operations • End of the workday Confidential

  7. Daily Maintenance (Cont.) • Cleaning the drum and gripper • This procedure is essential for proper loading/unloading and is performed daily, as follows: • At the beginning of the workday • On an as-needed basis during the workday or in between jobs. Confidential

  8. Daily Maintenance (Cont.) • Cleaning the bridge stepper motor cylinders • Should be performed on a daily basis in order to ensure smooth backward/forward and left/right movement of the bridge Confidential

  9. Weekly Maintenance • Opening the drum vacuum holes • Once a week or when there is a problem with loading thesubstrates, all the drum vacuum holes must be opened to ensure proper suction of the substrate against the drum during printing. Use a 6 mm long pin Confidential

  10. Bridge waste manifold Weekly Maintenance • Cleaning the bridge waste manifolds • Once a week there is a need to clean the bridge waste manifolds in order to prevent them from being clogged. Confidential

  11. As-Needed Maintenance • Cleaning the cutter • Replacing an inkjet head • Replacing an ink filter • Emptying the waste bath • Flushing the waste pump • Replacing the auto drop strip • Replacing the night cover foil Confidential

  12. As-Needed Maintenance (Cont.) • Cleaning the cutter • The cutter mechanism is cleaned on an as-needed basis when it is not functioning properly, which is usually due to buildup of bits of substrate on the cutter blade (usually from vinyl). • See related T.N. #24 Confidential

  13. As-Needed Maintenance (Cont.) • Replacing or cleaning an inkjet head • Removing an inkjet head is performed when replacing an existing inkjet head with a new one, or when the inkjet head needs to be cleaned. • Inkjet heads are cleaned one at a time, using first the washing unit, and then with the ultrasonic system (supplied with the TJ8300), if needed. Confidential

  14. A B C D E As-Needed Maintenance (Cont.) • Replacing an ink filter • Pull out and remove the main filter, clean it with acetone, and return it to its place. If the ink still does not flow, replace the main filter with a new one. • See pictures A, B, C, D, E. Confidential

  15. As-Needed Maintenance (Cont.) • Emptying the waste bath • This procedure is carried out by the waste pump, which is operated by the RTRUN software. Confidential

  16. As-Needed Maintenance (Cont.) • Flushing the waste pump • The waste pump must be flushed once every one to two months, in order to maintain the pump's efficiency and durability. • Flushing the waste pump circulates solvent through the pump, which cleans the pump's inner chambers. Confidential

  17. As-Needed Maintenance (Cont.) • Replacing the auto drop strip • Replacement of the drum's autodrop strip is performed on an as-needed basis, which is determined by visually checking if the strip is full of ink. Confidential

  18. As-Needed Maintenance (Cont.) • Replacing the night cover foil • Before replacing the night cover foil, ensure that you have an adequate amount of low-density stretch polyethylene foil (40 cm width, 20 microns thickness). Confidential
