Progress status of EMR Assembly Teleconf. January 21, 2010 1. EMR production status 2. EMR simulations (FEA studies) 3. EMR @ RAL University of Geneva: A.Blondel, J-S Graulich, V.Verguilov, Coralie Husi, F.Masciocchi, L.Nicola, R.Bloch, N.Geisig, P.Béné, F.Cadoux
EMR Design & Module M0 prototype As a recall… KL EMR • EMR features: • 24 modules • 1 module is made of X&Y planes • Nearly 11 km of WLS fibers • (1.2mm diam.) • 48 multianode PMT • 48 single pixel PMT • 28 Kg per plane (1,4 Ton totally) EMR Outer Box Movable frame (existing part)
Module M0 prototype • 2 planes X & Y have been assembled in a wooden black box… • a good experience to get a better feeling • about final schedule … PMT Single pixel PMT electronics Support (shielding?) FEE has been fixed upright Light tight enclosure
EMR Production status Nicolas & Laurent STEP 1: Bar cutting to length almost completed! (from 3.5mm to 1.1m)
EMR Production status STEP 2: Fine milling of the bars (1100 +/-0.1mm)…on going at MECATEST in Geneva (sub contrator). 2 batches remaining (due date: first week of February). This includes: milling, drilling (for glue injection) and tapping (for insert fixation)
EMR Production status (tentative schedule) • The full production of fiber gluing will start soon (within a week or so). • The pace will be 20 complete gluing per day (already challenging!!) • That means: • 1 plane per week (or 2 modules per month) • 2 modules to be tested per month … looks feasible (manpower is not sufficient to speed it up) • Based on the 1rst Module 0, it’s achievable but without any margin! White paint not shown here insert STEP 3: Gluing and fiber insertion (all the inserts in aluminum are ready for assembly)… right after the white painting of the bar ends (done in one go)
EMR simulations (FEA studies) • Ongoing, are 2 different studies: • One from Ghislain Gregoire on Magnetic shielding (by OPERA), • One from F.Cadoux about mechanical behaviour (sagging, stresses… • in order to size the EMR Outer Box properly. FEA model of the whole EMR 3D IGES model of the all shielding Meshing without covering plates
EMR simulations (FEA studies) • Sagging and stresses look OK (60x60mmx3mm cross section beams). • It showed the need of reinforcing the 4 corners (connections between modules) • by means of aluminum corner beams. • Several configurations studied: • Transportion loads (horizontal) • Rotation to get it upright @ RAL • - 1G Loading when vertical (in situ) Worst case study: No side panels, No end plates (Top and bottom) Slings for Handling (used for rotation)
EMR Integration @ RAL Building/platform issues EMR Box Thanks to Tim for the « environnement » STEP file…
EMR Integration @ RAL Building/platform issues (close up on EMR…we need about 1800mmx1800mmx1000mm) EMR Box 1000 mm 1800 mm
EMR Integration @ RAL Building/platform issues (seen from one side…) EMR Box Cable tray 500mm 310mm EMR active part Could it be modified or removed? 815 mm Trolley
EMR Integration @ RAL Building/platform issues (seen from the Top…) EMR Box EMR active part Platform edge 1800mm
EMR Integration @ RAL Building/platform issues (seen from the Top…) EMR Box Useful to anticipate/accomodate with crane works (sling fixations, rotations, mouvements,…) EMR active part Platform edge 1800mm
EMR Integration @ RAL Building/platform issues (anticipation / differents STEPS of MICE) EMR Box The EMR Outer Box will comply with the differents STEPS (moving downstream) So, we have to work closely with Tim, Andy,… to make sure that no interference with platform occurs…anytime! CAD works first and soon (to freeze the Outer Box) STEP xx STEP yy
