  1. Put First Things First Habit 3

  2. Bell Ringer: Quote Response This is a personal mission statement adopted by Katie Hall. It is short, but to her it means everything. Write a journal entry about what this mission statement means to you. “Nothing Less.”

  3. Review • Habit 1: Be Proactive • You are the driver, not the passenger. • Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind • Decide where you want to go and draw up a map to get there. • Habit 3: Put First Things First • Get there! Don’t let roadblocks knock you off course!

  4. Put First Things First Definition: Prioritize and do the most important thing first • Prioritize and manage your time • Identify what the most important things are in your life • Learn tools that allow you to be strong during difficult times and to live life according to what matters most. • Have will-power to say yes to the most important things and won’t-power to say no to less important things.

  5. The Time Quadrants Quadrant of Excellence

  6. Quadrant #1: The Procrastinator • A procrastinator: • Says, “I’ll do it later!” • Doesn’t kick in until there’s an emergency • Spending too much time here causes: • Stress • Anxiety • Mediocre performance • There will always be things we can’t control, like illness and last minute meetings. • Don’t let this be you!

  7. Quadrant #2: The Prioritizer • Quadrant of Excellence • A prioritizer: • Has control of their life • Is balanced • Takes care of business • Makes plans and puts the big rocks first • Make sure this is you!

  8. Quadrant #3: The Yes-Man • The Yes-Man: • Attends to things that aren’t urgent, but may seem important (i.e. a ringing phone). • Believes other people’s “big rocks” are their “big rocks” • Become a people pleaser • Lack discipline • Feel like a doormat for others to wipe their feet on • Don’t let this be you!

  9. Quadrant #4: The Slacker • The Slacker: • Loves anything in excess (i.e. too much TV, video games, web surfing) • Is a professional loafer • Puts small things first • Is a category of waste • Nothing in this quadrant is urgent or important • Lack of responsibility • Don’t let this be you!

  10. Where Do You Spend Most of Your Time? • We all spend time in all four quadrants, but the goal should be to increase the time spent in quadrant 2. • Shrink Q1 by procrastinating less • Say “No!” to activities in Q3 activities • Cut down on Q4 time-wasting activities

  11. Assignment & Homework In-Class Assignment Homework • Complete the “Why Plan” worksheet and turn in to the bin • If you don’t complete, take home and finish. • Plan out this week - Monday through Friday • Block out time for ‘Big Rocks’ • Fill in other time with less important tasks Due Tomorrow
