Hardware (MobiDeac) Cingular: Siemens SX66 with wifi Sprint: Audiovox SV6600 with camera. Provided students wifi SD card
Cellular Plans Chemistry: All students were provided loaner Mobi with Cingular data plan. Option to purchase voice plan or move their own SIM card into Mobi. Tech Quarters: Students provided loaner Mobi with data and voice plans. At Large: Students purchased Mobi. Sprint provided temporary data and voice plan; Cingular students used their own SIM or purchased voice/data.
Logistics • R&D Team built a software load for Mobi • Software load put onto all devices before distribution by R&D staff • Pre-populated some Favorites in Pocket IE (chemistry practice exercises…) • Pre-populated contact list with selected WFU phone numbers (campus police, IS Help Desk…) • Included alternate screen backgrounds and WFU ring tones • Application software
Resources for participants • Basic training at distribution (by cohort groups) • Monthly evening sessions by carrier to introduce new software, troubleshoot, etc • http://mobileu.wfu.edu: Tech guide, additional software to download, general information • Listserv • Blog managed by R&D; how-tos, explanations, fun software to try
Assessment • Feedback during monthly meetings • Survey at end of semester • Interviews with selected students • Interview with chemistry professor • Data collected by an application on Mobi that logged which applications were being used
