CST Information • Students are tested in the Spring of each year. Four core areas tested: • English • Math • Science • Social Science Scored in 5 Levels: • Advanced • Proficient • Basic • Below Basic • Far Below Basic
Goals • Students scoring in the Proficient or Advanced level, should stay in that level from year to year. • Students in the Far Below Basic, Below Basic or Basic levels are expected to move into the upper levels.
API • During the summer, the State uses the CST results and calculates an overall score, API, for the school and each sub-group. • The goal is for each school to achieve 800 and maintain this performance each year.
AYP • Established by the Federal Government under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). • AYP is calculated using the 10th grade CAHSEE scores in English and Math. • Goal is for every student to score “Proficient” or 380 and above by the year 2014. • Note: students only need a score of 350 to meet the State CAHSEE requirement.
