Latin America • The arrival of Europeans brought a racial hierarchy to Latin America. • Frequent intermarriage caused cultural diffusion between Europeans and natives. Middle East • The Middle East was generally under the control of the Ottoman and Safavid empires. • They were mainly militaristic societies, focusing heavily on weapons technologies. • Pre-existing cultures frequently clashed with Islam.
