Social • As of July 2011, there are 82,079,636 people living in Egypt • The population is growing by 1.96% (The US population is growing by .96%) Each woman has around 3 children. • 25.2 deaths per 1,000 live births (In the US, less than 6 per 1,000 live births) • Almost 50% of the population lives in an urban area, and Egypt is developing industrial • Risk of being exposed to bacterial diarrhea, hepatitis A, and typhoid fever, Rift Valley fever, avian flu.
Social • Muslim (mostly Sunni) 90%, Coptic 9%, other Christian 1%. • Eastern Hamitic stock (Egyptians, Bedouins, and Berbers) 99%, Greek, Nubian, Armenian, other European (primarily Italian and French) 1% • Family is very important- as well as honor. Honor is judged by their financial situation as well as the way they dress, and entwined with family honor. • Social class is very apparent in Egypt since it determines your access to power and position. • Your class determines the kind of opportunities you will have as well as your daily life. • You are born into your class and has less to do with money than class has to do with Family. • There is little social mobility.
