What is Tele-health? • Tele-health is the delivery of health-related services and information via telecommunications • Tele-health uses information and communication technology (ICT) to deliver health services, expertise and information over distance • Tele-health is mainly designed to provide care to persons living in remote of rural areas

Benefits of Tele-health to Patient/ Public • Increases access to specialty services for rural patients • Allows the patient to stay in their own community rather than travelling • Decreases the number of cancelled appointment due to weather or travel conditions • Reduces time for investigation, diagnosis and treatment through quicker consultations • Provides real time second opinions

Technology Used in Tele-health • Video-conferencing: is a live video connection between persons in separate locations for the purpose of communication or interaction. • Video collaboration creates virtual meeting experiences where participants feel as if they are in the same room although miles apart • It allows persons to communicate visually from any part of the world

Technology Used in Tele-health Cont’d • The internet: via the computer or electronic device communication can take place either between patients and healthcare providers or between healthcare providers via email, instant messaging, file transfer or video conferencing • High speed internet connection is used • Streaming data: information about patients are incorporated into the patient’s electronic health record, analyzed, flagged if necessary, and responded

Tele-health Process and Procedure • Maintaining confidentiality of patient tele-health consultations, patient health record and integrity of information in healthcare information systems is needed • Services provided via tele-health must adhere to basic assurance quality and professional health care in accordance with each health care discipline’s clinical standard • Identity of healthcare professionals must established in every encounter in tele-health

Tele-health Process and Procedure • Ensure proper documentation of each client encounter with recommendations and treatment, communication with other care providers as appropriate, and adequate protection of patients confidentiality • Safety of patients and practitioners must be ensured. • Safe software and hardware, and user competence is essential in tele-health • Maintain basic standards of professional conduct governing profession

Safety & Suitability of Tele-health • Tele-health provides real time care • It enables persons in remote and rural care to obtain care that urban counter-parts gain access too • Tele-health is safe because of the secured system used in transmitting health information to relevant persons • Tele-health improves patients quality of care and outcomes • Tele-health can target variations of persons seeking care, some of which can be monitored from home

Ethical and Legal Consideration of Tele Health ETHICAL CONSIDERATION: • The providers of tele health obligations to ensure privacy and confidentiality • The realization of positive impact that Tele Health can have on patients, providers and clinical outcomes LEGAL CONSIDERATION • It has to be considered whether nursing provided electronically over distance is actually the practice of nursing. • The jurisdiction of tele health will remain in the domain of a country or go out to different countries. • Consideration has to be given on where care does occur when the patients and the providers are in different geographical location.

Security and Privacy Consideration of Tele Health • Services are compliant of all federal law. • Service providers periodically review and update their privacy policies to ensure that they adequately address the management of information gathered during Tele Health consultations. • All Tele Health applications enforce strong passwords. • All Tele Health applications have to have a two stahe authentification. • All Tele Health applications records an audit trail of user’s access to patient information.

Conclusion In conclusion, Tele Health can be considered an efficient way to get to patients, specifically if they have traveled to another country but needs consultation from their medical adviser in their country. It’s a way of attending to sick patients abroad who can’t travel to another country for assistance.
