  1. All you need to know about Petroleum & solar energy!! Do you know what petroleum is or solar energy?

  2. Important Details about PETROLEUM • Do you know how this energy source is used to make electricity? Well we do. This product is known for making gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, and fuel oil, which all power stuff. Some examples include: cars, planes, and boats. Petroleum is a nonrenewable resource because it’s a energy resource formed from the remains of organisms that lived long ago; examples include oil, coal, and natural gases. Petroleum has been used for many years. The first recorded use in America was 1851 in Pennsylania that has been about 154 years ago. They used petroleum for lighting oil lamps an other sources of lighting.

  3. How is this energy form used in present day? • Petroleum is used to make gas which is used to power cars, planes, jets, and etc. • Used to heat homes. • Diesel fuel for trucks. • Petroleum jelly. • Used for Tiffany Lamps.

  4. Advantages of this energy form. • Excellent source of organic molecules for building plastics, medicines, rubber, fiber, etc. • Residuals make excellent surfaces for asphalt, roads, and waterproof roofing materials. • Highly compact portable source of energy used for most forms of mechanical transportation. • Can withstand high heats without breakdown. • Certain components make excellent solvents for paint, industrial use, and etc.

  5. Disadvantages of this energy form. • Oil is a carbon based fuel and the primary way it is used is to burn it, releasing more than it’s weight in CO2 because of the added oxygen. • Producing transporting and using petroleum can cause environmental problems and endanger wildlife. • Petroleum does contain some cancer, causing compounds, benezene is one of these compounds. • Acid precipitation, smog, water pollution, and etc are some environmental problems caused by the burning of fossil fuels. • There are only very limited supply of petroleum in the world.

  6. Important details about SOLAR ENERGY Do you know how this energy source is used to make electricity? Well we do. Through the use of solar cells or photovoltaic cells. You’ve probably used calculator powered by solar cells. The energy source is renewable because we can always get solar energy from the sun. In general humans have used solar energy from the beginning of time, but specifically we just started using it 100 years ago to heat water.

  7. How is this energy source used in present day? • Solar energy is used to heat houses. • Some cars use solar energy to be powered. • Solar panels can be attached on top of a building or house for electricity. • We use it to power calculators. • Some watches use solar energy.

  8. Advantages of this energy source? • Doesn’t pollute the environment. • You get paid for giving energy back to the state. • Low cost after you install the solar panels. • Doesn’t have to be dug up ; easy to get to. • It is renewable.

  9. Disadvantages of this energy form. • The solar panels are expensive. • Pollution can slow solar energy. • Solar panels only work if the sun is shining. • If you live in a rainy and cloudy climate your solar panels wont work. • Scientist have not yet discovered solar energy’s full potential.
