ACT-WEL Mission To create a culture of wellness throughout the ECU community and promote well-being through healthy lifestyle choices.
ACT-WEL Goals and Objectives To encourage and support healthy lifestyle choices of the ECU community • Initiate and endorse health and wellness related ECU policies • Support health and wellness programs and events
ACT-WEL Goals and Objectives To link staff and faculty with campus and state health and wellness resources • Have representation on STEWAC • Develop and/or support effective communication tools (website development, listservs, publications, etc.)
ACT-WEL Goals and Objectives To assist in the development of a comprehensive ECU Employee Wellness Program • Advise the ECU Employee Wellness Program • Research and review available data for needs assessment • Recommend programming needs • Research and recommend resources • Evaluation of process and outcome

Based on individual assessment the employee may be referred to a physician for medical management and/or a behavior change program for lifestyle improvements. The HRA will be used to track outcomes, and information from all sources will be tracked.
Pirate Wellness Challenge Spring 2006 • Collaboration with Physical Activity Promotion Department • Program designed to encourage overall health and fitness by emphasizing behavior changes such as healthy food choices and more physical activity • Participants earned points through being more physically active, water and fruit/vegetable consumption, and individual weight goals

ECU Employee Health and Wellness DayApril 7, 2006 • Faculty and staff participated in a one mile walk and health screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, height, and weight. • Participants received information about HealthSmart, a new wellness initiative sponsored by the NC State Health Plan
Employee Health and Wellness Day • Students from the College of Health and Human Performance screened 104 employees.
What is HealthSmart? • Wellness initiative sponsored by the NC State Health Plan • Offers information and support on health issues such as nutrition, weight management, smoking cessation, stress management, chronic disease management, and much more
NC HealthSmart - Website • Provides online tools to help manage and enhance personal health and well-being • Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week • Includes: • Health Risk Assessment (HRA) • Personal action plan based on HRA results • Over 35 Condition Centers • Lifestyle improvement programs • Accurate health information for any health question • Log on to http://statehealthplan.state.nc.us/ and click “HealthSmart” logo
