CalWORKs Assessment and Learning Disability Assessments • The California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids AB 1542 (CalWORKs) was signed in to law in August of 1997 • Contracted service with San Joaquin Human Services Agency • Delta College has provided CalWORKs Assessments and Learning Disability Assessments since 1999 • The CalWORKs Assessment Office is located in the DeRicco Student Services Building along with a San Joaquin County WorkNet Office
CalWORKs Assessment • Referrals from HSA case managers for assessment • Assessments take place Tuesday- Thursday and Saturdays (Delta College is the only county location open to accommodate clients on a Saturday) • Other locations for assessment are: County Office of Education and San Joaquin County Worknet offices • Assessments take between 3-5 hours to complete
CalWORKs Assessment • Assessment Services: • A formal Vocational Assessment for career guidance • Leads to the formulation of an Employment Plan that specifies types of services and training • Identify social traits and needs, vocational interests, goals, educational competencies and job skills • Identify employment goals and ability to achieve goals • Identify 3 or more occupational goals • Identify support services • Recommend appropriate training, education or work experience

CalWORKs Assessment Report • Based off of assessments results and career discussion: • Assessment results are generated from CareerScope, CASAS and intake • Recommendations report provided to case manager • Additional information is provided to client and case manager
CalWORKs Learning Disability Evaluation • Learning Disability Evaluations are provided under a separate contract with the Human Services Agency of San Joaquin County • Delta College is the only provider of Learning Disability Evaluations for CalWORKs participants • Provided to assist in determining strengths and barriers to employment and provide accommodations specific to the clients needs
CalWORKs Learning Disability Evaluation • Performed by School Psychologists • Assessments measure: • Aptitudes/ information processing • Achievement • Vocational interests • Diagnosis- provide formal identification of the specific nature of a learning disability and/or co-existing disorder that could extend beyond testing and measuring of aptitudes, performance, and vocational interests that are associated with a learning disability
CalWORKs Assessment • CalWORKs Assessment: • 2010- 2011- conducted 500 assessments and 31 learning disability assessments, program budget of $202,237 • 2011-2012- conducted 500 assessments and 34 learning disability assessments, program budget of $183,536 • 2012-2013- conducted 500 assessments and 23 learning disability assessments to date, program budget of $186,000 • CalWORKs Assessments billed at $318/ assessment • Learning Disability Assessment billed at $850/ assessment • Contract for 2013- 2014 and 2014-2015 • 600 CalWORKs Assessments at $325/ assessment • Up to 75 Learning Disability Assessments at $850/ assessment
