  2. What is the purpose of the Assessment test? Who is exempt from taking the Assessment? What is the test used for? What do my scores mean? Tips on taking the test? What is my next step? What are we going to cover today?

  3. There is no pass or fail on this test. The purpose of this test is to measure your skill level in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Math. What is the purpose of the Assessment Test?

  4. Who is exempt from taking the test? • Earned a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college of university in the USA • Completed intermediate algebra and College level composition at another accredited college or university • Interested in enrolling in Level 1 basic skills courses in Reading, English, and Math only • “One course waiver”- decide to take one class each term which does not have prerequisites • Has taken the assessment test at another college

  5. What is the test used for? • This test is used to place students in appropriate classes based on their skill level. • Your scores on the assessment test will determine the courses you will take.

  6. ASSESSMENT TESTING REVIEW • If you are not happy with your scores……. • You can take the retake test (2 times per semester)

  7. ASSESSMENT TESTING REVIEW • If you did not report a grade point average from high school, you may see a counselor for multiple measures exception.

  8. ASSESSMENT TESTING REVIEW • If you scored aHIGH LEVELon a test ......you may see a counselor to be upgraded to the next level.

  9. ASSESSMENT TESTING REVIEW • If you had a low grade point average in high school and your test scores are high, you can apply for a Matriculation Appeal in Holt 101.

  10. What do my scores mean? READING Level 1 Reading 91 A,B,C,D,E,F (Reading in “history” “health sciences” Reading 92 (Reading & Writing for Personal and Growth and Reading 90 & 98 (Introduction to Reading and Writing Skills) Level 2 No reading course required Level 3 No reading course required

  11. What do my scores mean? COMPOSITION (Writing) Level 1 English 70 (Basic Writing) Level 2 English 79 (Preparatory English) Level 3 English 1A (Written Communications)

  12. What do my scores mean? MATH Level 1 Math 72 (Review of Arithmetic DV ED 86 (Applied Mathematics) Level 2 Math 80 (Elementary Algebra) or Math 82 ( Inter. Algebra) Must have a level 2 in math Level 3 Depends on what math classes you have already completed Differs by major

  13. What is my next step? • Make an appointment so see a counselor to review your educational goals and objectives. • A counselor will help you develop a SEP (Student Education Plan). • The counseling office is located in Danner 205 • You may also call to make an appointment 954-5651

  14. Some class suggestions…. • Not sure what your major will be or what you should pursue??? • Guidance 30 (Career Self Assessment) • Guidance 31 (Career Exploration)

  15. Student ID and Delta E-mail • Please make sure that you know your Delta ID. • Many offices on campus do not use your social security numbers. • Make it a point to check your student e-mail on a regular basis.

  16. Financial Aid • Financial aid is available to students who qualify • You must complete the FAFSA form first www.fafsa.ed.gov • If you need assistance with completing this form please go to Goleman 128

  17. Tips on taking the test • Read and follow all the directions. • Read the questions carefully. • Take your time to answer the questions. • Think positively. • There is no penalty for guessing. GOOD LUCK AND DO YOUR VERY BEST!!!
