  2. IntroductionWrite what is black, listen to white • West Africans didn’t prosper much from trade routes • Run by Berbers • Eventually, Ghana, Empire in West Africa gained control of routes • Located between Niger and Senegal Rivers • Because of trade routes, Ghana became powerful

  3. Ghana’s BeginningWrite what is black, listen to white • Around 300, nomads threatened farmers • Farmers banded for protection, known as Soninke • Banding=Ghana’s Beginning • Iron: Used to make weapons and farm tools • Other armies had worse weapons, Ghana overpowered them
