What are A-G Requirements? A B C These are the required courses your student must take to be eligible for a 4-Year University… D E F G No Grade Lower Than “C” *an additional year recommended for these subjects
14 Comprehensive Review Factors Academic: • Grade-point average • Test scores • Performance in and number of courses beyond minimum a-g requirements • UC-approved honors courses and advanced courses • Eligibility in the Local Context (CA residents only) • Quality of senior-year program of study • Academic opportunities in California high schools • Outstanding performance in one or more academic subject areas • Non-Academic: • Achievements in special projects • Improvement in academic performance • Special talents, achievements and awards • Participation in educational preparation programs • Academic accomplishment in light of life experiences • Geographic location *Note: No single factor determines admission
Out of State Schools • Specific Entrance Requirements (varies by state and/or individual school) • Direct entry programs • Non-Impaction status in various majors • Can open up new opportunities for advancement through early hands-on involvement. • Gain new life experiences and perspective with out-of-state experience
PSAT • Wednesday, October 10th • All 9th, 10th and 11th graders • 9th graders take PSAT 8/9 • 10th and 11th take PSAT/NMSQT – National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Why the PSAT? • Measures college readiness • Students become familiar with the SAT • 11th graders can be eligible for scholarships • Khan Academy access with results
SAT SAT Reasoning Tests SAT (Spring 2016) = Evidence based Reading & Writing, Math, Optional Essay (200 – 800 Scale for each subtest – Evidence Based Reading & Writing; Math) Essay – 2 scorers – scoring scale = 2 – 4/scorer; total score = 4 – 8 Cross Test Score – 1. Analysis in History/Soc.Sci.; 2. Analysis in Science (10-40) Additional Subscores – Reading and Writing & Language; Math SAT Subject Tests English, Social Studies, Math, Science, Foreign Language, etc. Practice for SAT: Go to satpractice.org/k12 for resources about official SAT practice on Khan Academy
ACT • The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science. • The Writing Test, which is optional (but recommended and required for UC) measures skills in planning and writing a short essay. • Composite Scores range from 1 - 36
