  1. STEPS TO DIRECT NER ASSESSMENT The zeal to attain a positive NER assessment among engineers is gaining momentum in leaps and bounds. It is because this registration sets engineers apart from others. Here, in this blog, we will tell you what NER is. In addition, we will also tell you about the steps for its direct assessment. What is NER? NER, which is known as the National Engineering Register, is a searchable public database. It lists qualified and highly recognized engineers having demonstrated a high level of professionalism and competency in their areas of practice for at least 5 years. Engineers Australia manages the NER. This register is the largest Australian register for engineers, offering a standard measure of professionalism across the country. Before being approved for the NER, EA assesses the engineer on the basis of verifiable parameters such as engineering competencies, education qualifications, work experience, ethical conduct and commitment, professional development, and safety. Steps for direct assessment: 1. Rate yourself: For the first step, reflect on your career and identify examples of past work that demonstrate your competency in each of the NER Direct competencies. You have to complete the self-assessment related to your occupational category, professional engineer, engineering associate or engineering technologist, as a part of your online application.

  2. 2. Apply for it online: If you are an EA member: Complete your self-assessment online Upload an expanded resume in which you provide details you have undertaken and been responsible for and your major attainments. It should include: · Problems, situations and opportunities you have had · Expert knowledge and skills you have used · Outcomes you have attained · The actions you took to handle a situation, including innovation and creativity If not a member, complete items 1 and 2 Upload the following: Photo identification Evidence of your recognized qualification: · EA-accredited qualification testamur or transcripts; or · Engineers Australia Eligibility for Member, Stage 1 competency outcome letter; or · Engineers Australia Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) outcome letter Step 3: Ensure your peers’ assessment: · You will be required to have two referees who can attest to your recent work experience. · Preferably be EA Chartered members who are registered on the NER, or engineers having more than five years of post-graduate engineering experience · Be somebody you have had a recent professional relationship with · Have recent knowledge of your work and the experience you are using for the support of your self-assessment, · preferably be in the same area(s) of engineering you desire registration in Your assessor will contact your referee to discuss your work experience and you. Step 4: Interview: The NER Direct interview is the last stage of the NER Direct assessment. It confirms the competencies that have been demonstrated by the supporting proof you have given. It is the chance to showcase yourself and your capability of practicing independently. A qualified Engineers Australia assessor will conduct this interview, and this interview will be held online via video. 5. Registration: You can now elect to be listed on Engineers Australia’s NER. State Registration: If requiring state registration, give the registering body your eligibility letter as evidence you have demonstrated the necessary competency for registration. Remember that state registration only applies to professional engineers. If you want to apply for the NER assessment but have confusion, hire an NER expert so that you do everything systematically.
