Le Conditionnel • The conditionalisused to express the consequences of a hypothetical situation using the structure: • Si + Imparfait + Conditionnel • Si vous étiez moins égoïste, vous auriez plus d’amis. • The imperfect is always used in the si clause when the conditional is used in the consequence clause. The order can be changed without affecting the meaning of the sentence.

  3. Forming the Conditional • The conditional is formed by adding the imperfect endings to the future stem. • Parler: • Je parlerais • Tu parlerais • Il/Elle/On parlerait • Nous parlerions • Vous parleriez • Ils/Elles parleraient

  4. Examples • Manger: • Je mangerais • Tu mangerais • Il/Elle mangerait • Nous mangerions • Vous mangeriez • Ils/Elles mangeraient • Finir: • Je finirais • Tu finirais • Il/Elle finirait • Nous finirions • Vous finiriez • Ils/Elles finiraient
