  2. Vocabulary • Array-------numbers or symbols arranged in row or columns • Area---------number of square units needed to cover a surface. • Row-------a line in the horizontal • Column-------a line in the vertical

  3. Vocabulary Continued • square root--------one of two equal factors of a number. • square number--------The product when a whole number is multiplied by itself.

  4. Multiplication Patterns • One way to think of multiplication patterns is by using an array. • Remember that an array is an arrangement of numbers or symbols in columns or rows.

  16. Squares and square roots • A square is a rectangle that has equal sides.
