  1. RP SurveySwitchyard Operation IEFC meeting 08/02/2013 J. VOLLAIRE on behalf of DGS-RP

  2. Motivation : SWY access mode • New access system: • Possibility to access part of the PS ring while the p beam is accelerated in the PSB (and sent to ISOLDE for example) • Dose Rate in case of beam loss: • Door position • Radiation monitor • Simulations • BHZ10 is not fail safe ! x x Accessible areas Beam Loss (L2 - 50 MeV) Beam Loss (PSB – 1.4 GeV)

  3. Beam loss conditions (PSB beam) • Similar measurement done in 2000: • Continuous beam loss: 100 pulses over 6 mn ~ 1e13 ppp, E = 1.4 GeV • 3 pulses on BTP.STP (ok from EN-STI) • Well defined beam loss condition for comparison with calculations • 1e13 ppp, 1.4 GeV

  4. Actions Necessary • Accesses needed prior to test: • Installation of radiation monitors (PS / DGS-RP) • Moving beam stopper in (PSB / EN-STI & DGS-RP) • Accesses needed after test • Retrieval of radiation monitors (PS / DGS-RP) • Moving beam stopper-out after 1 h cool-down time (PSB / EN-STI & DGS-RP) or done remotely (stopper will not be “locked-in” for the end of the run) • RP survey beam loss area (PSB / DGS-RP) • Action GS-ASE on safety chain (before and after) • No beam inside the PS while monitors are present
