  7. Feeling more resentful on finance? • 2.

  8. More resentment over finance? Would you say that compared with other parts of the United Kingdom, Scotland gets pretty much its fair share of government spending, more than its fair share, or less than its fair share of government spending? Much more than its fair share of government spending A little more than its fair share of government spending Pretty much its fair share of government spending A little less than its fair share of government spending Much less than its fair share of government spending

  9. Scotland’s share of spending

  10. Pay for services out of taxes raised in Scotland?

  11. Want England to be governed differently? • 3.

  12. Scottish MPs not vote on English laws?

  13. How should England be governed? With all the changes going on in the way different parts of Great Britain are run, which of the following do you think would be best for England? England governed as it is now, with laws made by the UK parliament Each region of England to have its own assembly that runs things like health England as a whole to have its own new parliament with law-making powers

  14. How should England be governed?

  15. How is England responding? No evidence of increasing sense of ‘Englishness’ (since 2000) But resentment over finance higher post-2007 And strength of feeling on West Lothian growing • (But not translating to increased demand for further devolution for England)

  16. So how would (might) England respond? Scotland Bill & Devo Max Key issue = finance Scotland Bill – unlikely to go far enough? Devo Max – might be answer to English (and Scottish) concerns • Reduced financial resentment? • Helps case for addressing West Lothian (no block grant so less Scottish interest in English decisions on Health etc.)?

  17. How would English respond to independence?
