Southfield School • A new special school to build on the strengths of Bolling and Haycliffe Special Schools, and seek the maximum integration with Grange Technology College.
concept layout • the new building to be formed by colliding a BB98 specification mainstream school (Grange TC) and a BB77 special school (BD5) into each other; • a central heart space captured in this collision forms the core of the new campus; • the new BD5 special school is located in the quietest area of the site with dedicated facilities and access points.
concept plan • mainstream teaching zig zag faces stunning views to the north • the heart of the campus is a full-height atrium space containing social and dining facilities and an open multi-purpose assembly and performance area • BD5 and Grange schools meet and integrate through shared teaching and social spaces • The new special school has both dedicated entrance and easy access to shared areas
