Building for the Future 1. Motivated By Love and Respect Matthew 22:34-40 “ 34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Cf. Mark 12:28-33 Luke 10:25-34 a. Love and Respect for God b. Love and Respect for Others
2. Driven by Purpose Matthew 28:18-20 “ 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Our Purpose – “to make disciples” • Our process – Evangelism, Discipleship, Baptism, Education • Our Promise – “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
3. Empowered to Witness Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This is Jesus last promise while on earth. • Witness where you are, Jerusalem (Beamsville) • Witness where in your province, Judea (Ontario) • Witness in the next province, Samaria (Quebec) • Be a global witness, the world
4. Designed for Service Ephesians 4:11-16 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Summary • I must be motivated by love and respect for God and Others • I must be Driven by God’s Purpose • I must be Empowered for Witness by the Holy Spirit • I must understand and yield to God’s Design
