Facial Recognition in Real Life Watch clip
Facial Recognition in Real Life “Tesco is installing scanning software in its 450 gas stations across the U.K. to develop targeted in-store advertising based on customers’ physical features and shopping habits. The software, created by British digital-media group Amscreen, collects data on shoppers’ appearance to “guess” their rough age and gender. By matching that information with data on their purchases, Tesco can tell that a middle-aged woman buying gas in suburban London at 11 a.m. on a weekday might be in the mood for a coffee, while a man in his early 20s would probably prefer a soft drink.”

Emotion Recognition in Real Life “It successfully discriminates between truth and lies in about two-thirds of cases” “Later this year… they plan to deploy it in a UK airport” “We all unconsciously, involuntarily reveal our emotions in subtle changes of expression” “Even swelling blood vessels around our eyes betray us, and the thermal sensor spots them too”
How does recognition technology work? “The technology works by digitally measuring the distance between the eyes, the width of the nose, the length of a jawline and other data points. Law enforcement agencies that use facial recognition — as was done during the recent London riots — compare the measurements against photos in databases. But for most marketing uses, the measurements are compared to standardized codes that represent features typical of males and females in various age brackets.”
