Tourism sector in Turkey badly affected by terrorism and wars more than economic crises. • In the years of 1994, 1998, and 2001, collective redundancies in our organized workplaces were brought to agenda. • To be able to reduce this effect and keep the workers at their workplaces protocols are signed in our four workplaces which made new arrangements at collective agreements. • We had to take measures such as reduction of pay rise in some workplaces and postponed the date of the application of pay rise articles of collective agreements. It was added to protocols if there is an increase in the company revenues, the deficit of workers will be met.
Because of the Bankruptcy of Some Tourism Agenciesin Europe, Some Hotels are at Risk • The Bankruptcy of Thomas Cook was begun to spoken about and debts of it were not paid so its partner hotels in Turkey are experiencing the some problems. • Because of this reason we have to prolong the collective bargaining procedures inthis workplaces and we had to wait the results.
The Bankruptcy of Valtur Company Badly Affected the Workers of ValturCompanyin Turkey • Workers of the ‘’Valtur Park HotelBodrum’’haven’t been paid for 4-6 months and they also cannot take their dismissal pay and the amount of due is about 321.000 Euro. • Now, we cannot find any authorized person to continue collective bargaining procedure. • In fact we had started collective bargaining procedure with the representative of business in Turkey but they did not have an official authority so we had to cease the negotiations.
In the meanwhile we applied in the Court to take of worker salaries but we cannot hope getting a result because company does not have property in Turkey. • Company was operating in a hired hotel and at the end of this season its rental contract ended so now there is no actual workplace but there are workers. • We are trying to solve the problem by making contact with the Committee of Commissars in Italy. • To be able to get international solidarity we try to progress our relations with trade unions and international federations/ confederations to which we affiliated.
