Served briefly in the Senate then resigned
Served six years as a judge on the Tennessee Supreme Court
Governor of the territory of Florida
4. War Served as a major general in the war of 1812
Became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans
Nicknamed “Old Hickory” because of his strict discipline
5. The “Stolen Election” Jackson ran against Henry Clay, John Quincy Adams and William H. Crawford
Jackson swept the popular vote but did not have enough electoral votes to automatically become president
House of Representatives chose Adams in a shocking turn
6. Campaign During the campaign Adams charged Jackson and his wife with adultery because Rachel (his wife) was married before and there was confusion over her divorce
Jackson won the 1828 election against Adams in a landslide
7. Presidency He used the power of veto more times than all of the previous presidents combined
