  1. Hello SCE Students! The WASC Accreditation Team will Visit SCE on March 14-16, 2011. They may visit your class or ask you questions. Here are some fun facts to get you prepared!

  2. 4 1 7 2 5 3 6 Name of our school? School of Continuing Education (SCE) Name of our school district? North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) Basic facts about the NOCCCD? The NOCCCD district has a population of about one million community members. Three colleges make up the NOCCCD: Cypress College served 16,444 students in Fall 2010; credit college granting degrees Fullerton College served 22,844 students in Fall 2010; credit college granting degrees SCE served 25,664 students in Fall 2010; noncredit school offering skills, enrichment and certificate programs The NOCCCD serves 19 cities and 15 different school districts.

  3. 4 1 7 2 5 3 6 What is accreditation? Why is accreditation important? Accreditation is a formal recognition that a school meets high educational standards. Accreditation is important because it ensures a high quality education for students.

  4. 4 1 7 2 5 3 6 Who are we accredited by? Which division? SCE is accredited by the: Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) SCE is accredited under the Accrediting Commission for Schools division (WASC ACS)

  5. 4 1 7 2 5 3 6 What is the purpose of the visit on March 14-16, 2011? Accreditation is granted for a maximum of six years at which time a self-study is conducted, followed by a WASC accreditation visit. SCE was granted initial accreditation in July 2008. The WASC team will visit on March 14-16, 2011 in preparation for accreditation renewal.

  6. 4 1 2 5 3 6 What is the difference between credit, noncredit and community education courses? Credit Students earn credits toward the completion of a degree or certificate program or for transfer to higher education/university programs. Noncredit Each course provides training and education to enrich general knowledge, new or upgraded skills, or development of personal interests. Courses may provide a certificate or lead to career advancement, but do not earn transfer credits. Community Education Courses Community Education classes offer self-improvement, new skills to advance in the workplace or activities for enrichment. Courses include a small fee and do not offer transfer credits. Which type of course are you enrolled in? Credit, Noncredit or Community Education Course

SCE offers: Learning Centers and computer labs at each SCE center. Career and counseling centers. Orientation and assessment. Career-focused events and college transition activities.
