  3. How do we hear sounds? • Sounds waves enters our ears from the Outer Ear and beats on the eardrum

  4. How do we hear sounds?The Middle Ear: Good Vibrations • The Middle Ear take the sound waves from the Outer Ear and turn them into vibrations as it passes along the way to the inner ear.

  5. How do we hear sounds?The Middle Ear: Good Vibrations (cont.) • The Three (3) Tiniest Bones in the middle ear are called Ossicles (ah-sih-kulz). 1. Malleus: attached to the eardrum also known as the “hammer”

  8. How do we hear sounds?The Middle Ear: Good Vibrations (cont.) • Eustachian Tube: Known as the “Equalizer”. • It makes sure air pressure is the same on both sides of our eardrum. When it opens, you feel a “pop”.

  9. How do we hear sounds?The Inner Ear: Where Nerve Signal Begins • Nerve signals created by tiny hairs in the cochlea (ko-klee-uh), which the sound vibrations causes the hairs on the cell to move. • It gives a nerve signal in the brain to understands as sound.

  10. How can we protect our ears? • Wear earplugs at loud music concerts and around noisy machinery (i.e.: wood or metal shop) • Turn down the volume on your stereo, i-Pods, MP3 player headphones. • Do not stick foreign objects (i.e.: hair clips, cotton swabs)
