  2. INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS I am pleased to advise that agreements have now been finalised for the supply of Interactive Classroom Project equipment, with significant cost reductions achieved through the tendering process. Memorandum Number: DN/08/00131Issued: 28 April 2008

  6. Panasonic Elite Panaboard UB-T780 • Hardboard (PET Coated metal) Surface • Stylus Touch • Requires Stylus • 77” Diagonal

Panasonic Elite Panaboard UB-T780 • Disadvantages • Requires Stylus to operate • Battery is required for stylus • Can not use fingers • 10 cm wide strip along left edge is unusable • Advantages • Hard metal surface – not active. • Digital technology means more accuracy. • If surface is damaged, it can be easily replaced without replacing entire board • Active Components can be easily replaced/upgraded

  8. Smartboard SB680/SB660 • Soft Polyester Surface • Finger Touch • Can be operated with finger or Stulus • 77”/68” Diagonal

Smartboard SB680/SB660 • Disadvantages • Surface can get dirty through use of fingers • Analogue technology • Because the board surface is an active component, if damage occurs, entire board would need to be replaced • Active components unable to be replaced/upgraded • Unable to hover or rollover • Advantages • Able to be controlled with fingers or stylus • Stylus does not require battery • Whole surface of board is able to be used • More intuitive for younger users

  11. Dell 1409x • Long throw - mounted from Ceiling and set back 2-9m from Wall • XGA (1024 x 768)‏ • 2500 Lumens • Not recommended for IWB due to glare in presenter's eyes • Suitable for large wall projection or mobile projector

  12. Dell 1409x • Disadvantages • Not suitable for IWB use • Advantages • Can be used as a mobile projector (if not mounted from ceiling)‏ • Can be used to project onto very large wall

  13. Epson EMP-400W • Short Throw Projector • True Wide XGA (1280 x 800 pixel)‏ • 1800 lumens • Mounted 1-2m from wall • wall or ceiling mount • Suitable for IWB

  14. Epson EMP-400W • Disadvantages • Not Mobile • Not suitable for projection on very large wall/screen • More glare than ultra-short throw projectors • Advantages • As projector is mounted 1 m from board – reduced glare when compared to long throw. • Wide screen projection

  15. Sanyo PLC-XE50 • Ultra Short throw • XVGA (1024 x 768)‏ • 2000 Lumens • Mounted from wall above board • Recommended for IWB

  16. Sanyo PLC-X50 • Disadvantages • Not Mobile • Not suitable for projection on very large wall/screen • Advantages • Very little or no glare for Presenter as projector is close to board. • Inbuilt anti theft alarm • Less attractive to thieves

  17. The Software • NSW DET has negotiated for a state licence for ActivStudio 3 to be used with all IWB's. • This software is used to create lesson content. • Software will be available soon. • CLI and Regional Curriculum Consultants will develop' flipcharts’ using this software

  23. Connected Classroom Project • All school will receive 1 Connected Classroom over next 3 years. • Interactive Whiteboard • Projector • Flat Screen TV • Speakers and microphones • 2 x Video Conference Cameras • Computer (Windows) • Cabinet containing all connections.

  24. Requirements of room • be large enough to accommodate a full class. • Be able to be used as required by all groups in the school. • Have independent lights switches and blinds to control lights. • Be sound-proofed or at least not be affected by noises. • Have a solid front wall capable of having equipment mounted on it. • Have a back wall that has some solid section to allow mounting of a camera. • Have power and network outlets. • Have heating and ventilation. • Adequate security.

  26. Can I purchase from another supplier? • No. • Refer to DG's Memos • No IT Support will be provided for other brands.

  27. Company X has told us they are on State Contracts. Can we buy from them? • No. • DET has negotiated a contract for DET Schools, TAFE, Regional and State Offices.

  28. We already have boards from Brand X and wish to have them all the same • Brand X are not on DET Contract and so are not available for purchase. • The software chosen by DET will work on all boards and so teachers can learn the same software and share their work.

  29. My P & C wishes to purchase equipment. Can they purchase from other suppliers? • No. • Note - No IT support will be provided to other non-DET approved equipment.

  30. Can you compare the boards with Brand X • Brand X is not on contract and so are not available for purchase.

  31. Interwrite board uses Bluetooth while the others use Infrared. Please compare them. • Pen position determined by: • Interwrite - has an active surface which uses electromagnetic grid. • Smartboard uses a soft flexible surface grid. • Panaboard uses ultrasonic and Infrared sensors • Connection to computer is via USB cable. Bluetooth is an option for Smart/Interwrite, but cable is still needed for projector.

  32. Can we buy outside Smartbuy if we can prove we are buying from a Govt Contract supplier and can match the price? • No. – See DG’s Memo. • No IT (or other) support will be provided to non-contract equipment.

  33. What are the structural requirements for an Interactive Whiteboard and Projector • Wall needs to be sturdy and capable of supporting weight of board/projector. • Should be a structural wall. • Power and network connectivity needs to be available.

  34. What is provided for the Installation Costs? • Installation charges include: • Unboxing • Mounting of brackets • Mounting board/projector • Configuration and testing

  35. Warranty Details • 4 Year on-site Warranty on all parts • Excluding bulb • Service calls logged through DET IT Service Desk (1800 338 483)

  36. Who are the Main Suppliers? • All orders made through NSW DET Fleet Manager

  37. Can I bundle the package from 1 Supplier? • All orders are through NSW DET Flet manager. • Installation can be bundled for Projector and IWB.

  38. The Dell Projector is a lot cheaper. Can I use it with an IWB? • Not recommended for use with IWB. • Long throw projectors are designed to be 2-9 metres from the screen. • The presenter would be looking into the light when facing their class.
