He was also a good political leader. • He destroyed the walls of cities to make it hard for people to rebel against him. • He made the governors of cities work for him.
The Assyrian Empire • The Assyrians, a feared empire of warlike people, and their ruler, Nineveh were also into the arts. • They took over in 900 B.C.E. with a newly trained army. • Although, the empire was military-based, they also had a strong religious system, and amazing arts. • They created bas-reliefs, two-dimensional sculptures that often showed kings doing things like hunting, fighting in battle, or enjoying family life.
Neo-Babylonian Empire • The Neo-Babylonians, (New-Babylonians) and their ruler, Nebuchadnezzar II, was good at fortifying his city. • Their ruthless leader, Nebuchadnezzar II, reigned from 605-562 B.C.E. • He rebuilt the capital’s ziggurat and created the Hanging Gardens of Babylon to make his people happy. • The people of Babylon were skilled in Mathematics and astronomy. They created the first sundial, and they made discoveries that led to our present-day 60-min hour and 7-day week.
