New technologies for network-unaware distributed applications Intrinsic bottlenecks in traditional IN architecture can lead to poor performances High expenses in switching SW design and maintenance Mobile code supports dynamically reconfigurable network structures Rationale * Adaptive broadband service provisioning architecture * Open switching platforms able to accommodate mobile code
EXODUS parts Mobile Agents CORBA INSIGNIA parts Project background
Main objectives • to identify and explore B-IN service and network architectural issues combining DOT/MAT • to explore benefits given by DOT/MAT to service provisioning • to investigate the implications of DOT/MAT on user mobility (VHE) • to perform experiments to validate the proposed solutions

MARINE applies DOT/MAT to the design and deployment of IN SLPs/SDTs, which can be distributed between different network nodes according to time-varying service needs
Roles of MARINE network systems • SCE: create and test MA-based services • SMS: store services and deploy them in the remaining PE, service management • SEN: combination of B-IP and B-SCP functionality by hosting B-SCF/B-SDF, M-SCF/M-SDF and B-SRF FE • B-SS&CP: combination of B-SSP and B-SCP functionality by hosting B-CCF, B-SSF, B-SCF/B-SDF and M-SCF/M-SDF FE
