Camera Angles • Flat shot – The subject and the camera are at the same angle • High angle – The camera is at a point higher than the subject • Low angle – The camera is at a point lower than the subject • Overhead – The camera is looking down on a subject
Camera Movements • Pan – Altec Videos • The horizontal pivoting of the camera to the right or left • Best executed slowly and with purpose • Tilt • The vertical pivoting of the camera up or down • Also, best executed slowly and with purpose
Camera Movements (continued) • Zoom • A camera lens movement (the camera stays stationary) that reduces or magnifies the subject and the field of view • Dolly • A horizontal movement of the camera towards or away from the action • Brings the viewer closer or farther away from the subject
Camera Shots • Wide or Long Shot • Frames a wide field of the subject and its surroundings • Medium • Includes more of the subject than a long shot and still includes some background • Shows more detail than a long shot
Camera Shots (continued) • Close-Up – Shows detail • Extreme Close-Up – Frames only a portion of a subject

Filming Techniques • Start the tape rolling several seconds before a shot starts, and keep it rolling when the action is over. (Advantage – easy to crop when editing) • Shoot more than one take if time. • Try to shoot both medium and close-up shots. • If at a new location, begin with both medium and close-up shots
