Ask a rhetorical question Questions should provoke a thought but not an answer from your audience. “Did you love to go on roller coasters when you were younger?” 4. Begin with facts “People remember 90% of what they teach to someone else. They only remember 10% of what is lectured to them.” 5. Use an anecdote (Short accounts of interesting or humorous—if appropriate-- events— fiction or REAL) *** You must hook your audience! The first 30 seconds of a speech is the most important part! 1. Use a Quote “Henry David Thoreau said, “Men are born to succeed, not to fail.” 2. Begin with Humor Lighten the mood if your topic calls for it! No inappropriate jokes -

If you had money to help anyone or any group of people in the world, who would you help and how would you help them?  4. How long have you lived in Wilmington? Where else have you lived? 5. What person do you most admire and why? 6. What is your favorite school subject? Why? 7. What is more important, love or money? Why do you think so?
