Arrangements –Contact Schools • Designate the schools • Determine the Nr of classrooms in each school • Name the contact person • Make connection to the nominated person • Inform the school about the process of the field work ( time schedule: when-where-which days-what time)
Arrangements-looking round • Preliminary going-over general information • Assign the sampling points (I+O) • Setting conditions for passives samplers (I+O) • Setting conditions for continuous monitoring (devices, power +persons) • Fill out the School Qestionnaire
Previous day • Passive Sampling • samplers (diffusive body, adsorption cartridge, supporting plate, labels, shelter) • Continuous monitoring • devices, laptop • Others • ladder, tape, string, scissors, extension cord • Activity diary, Sampling records, Classroom Questionnaire • Demo package
First day Arrival of our staff one hour before the schooltime
First daySetting of Outdoor passive samplers • Where • 1-3 sampling points depending on the orentation of the classrooms (NO2, BTX) • 1sampling point depending on the orientation of the classroom monitored on the first day (HCHO) • When in the morning, before the schooltime • Howlong 4 -7days (NO2, BTX), 24 hrs (HCHO) • Startthe sampling • Fill out the SamplingRecords
First daySetting of Indoor passive samplers • Where at 1 sampling point per classroom • When in the morningbefore the schooltime • How long • 4 -7days (NO2, BTX) • 24 hrs (HCHO) • Startthe sampling • Fill outthe Sampling Records
Practical advice for Passive HCHO Indoor+Outdoor sampling • End the previous day sampling every morning and start the actual day sampling as on the first day • Make the last sampling from the end of schooltime on the day before the last • Important! 24 hr-exposure time
First to last dayContinuous monitoring - Outdoor • Where at passive sampling point (depending on the orentation of the monitored classroom) • Whenbefore and after schooltime • How long 10 minutes
First to last dayContinuous monitoring - Indoor • Whereat the previously designated place in the classroom • When on the selected day • How longduring the schooltime • Installthe indoor monitoring system(CO/CO2, PM10) • Startthe sampling • Fill outthe Sampling Records, Classroom Questionnaire, Activity Diary
BTX Components of radial diffusive sampler Diffusive body Adsorbing cartridge NO2 PE coated with TEA NO2 Steel net with charcoal BTX Supporting plate
How to use passive samplers (Radiello) 1 2 • Transfer adsorbent cartridge into the diffusive body • Srew diffusive body into the support plate • After sampling tranfer the cartridge into its glass tube • Write ID number on the label 3 4
