Athletic Training Policies • Concussion: • Athletes diagnosed with concussion must complete return to play protocol before returning to practice/game • 5-stage gradual return to play once symptom-free • Doctor’s Notes: • Athlete MUST have doctor’s note following appointment • Will not be allowed to play unless there is a note

Players Health • Injury documentation system that connects Guardians, Athletic Trainers and Coaches • As a Guardian, you will receive email notice when an injury report has been filed for your athlete • This system is in addition and WILL NOT replace parent phone calls • You will be receiving an email invitation this week to the email listed on Family ID • Login instructions and further instructions will be in your parent packet

  12. Who Are the Broadneck Athletic Boosters? A non-profit organization comprised of dedicated parent volunteers working to raise funds to supplement the BHS Athletic Department in order to enhance the student-athlete experience. • We provide this support through our large fundraising initiatives annually: • Membership (year-round) • Craft Bazaar (winter) • Mulch Sale (spring)

What the Booster Club Does… • 100% of all Funds earned by the Boosters are used to support BHS student-athletes • We provide funding for: • Field maintenance (seeding fields, etc.) • Facility improvement • Equipment modernization • Team needs/requests • Awards, signage, and trophies • We also provide funding for Scholarships: • Senior Awards • 2 - $1000 - Scholarships to seniors of Boosters families • 2 - $1000 - Athlete of the Year scholarships (male and female) • 2 - $1000 - Phoebe Kelly and Tim McMullen scholarships

  16. What We Need From YOU? • Membership: • Become a member. Our Goal is 90% membership. Improved from less than 40% to over 60% this year. You should become a member every year! • Team Boosters Club Liaisons: • Interested?  Contact Head Coach or a Boosters Volunteer • Volunteer Support: • Concession Stand–Volunteer to work during a game. Make new friends, it’s fun! • Merchandise Store – Shop our Merchandise Store! Great new products this season! • Sponsorship– Become a sponsor for your business, recruit local businesses to sponsor, and show your support to those who currently support the Boosters!

Broadneck Athletics' Code of Conduct • Created to provide consistency amongst all of our teams • Responsible for MPSSAA, AACPS Athletic Handbook, and AACPS Student Code of Conduct • Responsibility of coach to determine discipline and playing time • “Any conduct deemed detrimental to the student-athlete, team and/or overall good of the program, anytime, on and off campus, can result in penalties ranging from verbal reprimand to expulsion from the team as determined by the head coach.”

  20. Social Media • Public information even after it has been removed. • Interpretation/Perception • Disrespectful comments and behavior online will not be tolerated. Examples could include, but are not limited to: • derogatory language or remarks; • incriminating photos or statements; • creating serious danger to the safety of others or making a credible threat; and • indicating knowledge of an unreported school or team violation. • Any of the above actions, but not limited to, may be considered conduct detrimental to the team. • You are representing yourself, family, team, and Broadneck High School.

Attendance Policy • Student-Athletes must attend all classes in order to participate in athletics. • If a student-athlete must miss time from the regular school day, they must get approval to participate in athletics at least 48 hours in advance. • To get approval, email the following staff at least 48 hours in advance: • Ms. Kennelly – rkennelly@aacps.org • CC: Mr. Necessary – knecessary@aacps.org • CC: Head Coach of the team

Attendance Policy • Approval is gained when Ms. Kennelly responds to the email. • In most cases, approval will only be granted if the student-athlete attends at least 50% of his or her classes on the day of the absence. • Student-athletes are required to self-report absences and Tardy Table consequences to their coaches. • Failure to self-report will result in suspension from the next game/contest and possible forfeiture.

  23. Attendance Policy • Student-athletes are considered tardy before 7:45 AM and are considered absent after 7:45 AM. • Student-athletes who are issued consequences at the Tardy Table must serve the consequences as scheduled. Consequences will not be rescheduled to accommodate athletic schedules. • Student-athletes who serve an ISI or are suspended for any reason will serve a minimum of a one game/contest suspension.

  24. Academic Expectations • Academics are the priority of every program in our athletic department. • Study hall opportunities and tutoring are available to all students throughout the year. • All 9th grade students are eligible to start the school year in August. • Make academics the focus of your student’s high school career.

Academic Eligibility • At the end of the 1st quarter of the freshman year and every marking period for the remainder of the student’s high school career, they must maintain a 2.0 GPA with no more than 1 E on their report card to be eligible for participation in athletics in AACPS. • If a student does not reach this expectation, they have a chance to regain eligibility at academic study hall on a 16-day probation period. This is a drop-dead date at the start of every season (September 5th). No exceptions. If the student does not regain eligibility during the probation period, they are ineligible for the remainder of the season. • Study Hall attendance is mandatory – NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

  26. Registration for Participation • The following must be completed and verified by the athletic office prior to participation: • Complete fall registration online at www.familyid.com • Every student athlete must have health insurance. Contact the Broadneck athletic office if this is an issue. • Physical - Completed and UPLOADED on Family ID in your personal registration - Must be completed on June 1, 2019 or later.

Agreements on Family ID • A completed registration on Family ID includes agreeing to the following regulations and policies: • Guide for Student Athletes and Parents • AACPS Athletic Handbook • BHS Athletic Code of Conduct • Concussion Testing and Release • Media Release (Can be Yes or No) • Health Plan Acknowledgement

Fan Behavior • Please remember that when you enter an athletic contest involving a Broadneck High School team, you are representing the school, your child, and your family. • Please let the Head Coach and Athletic Director handle issues with officiating. • Maintain a supportive attitude in the stands. The image of our school is directly reflected by fan behavior.

What's New? • Upload student physicals to “Family ID” – No hard copies needed • BRUIN TV – Live webcast of all stadium and gymnasium events (subscription needed) • Admission charges for volleyball ($5.00) – All AACPS schools • Employee ID badges – No more “plus one” – Must sign in at all AACPS schools
