  5. Other Servers • LibData (High-end data storage) • EdLabnas (Low-end data storage, currently unavailable) • EDUCAT (OPAC) • New Purchases • Please contact me if need to purchase new server or discuss how existing server can be used with an application.

  6. Server Access • For a username and password access, please send me email to cocciolo@tc.edu and I’ll give you a handout with your username and password. • Please do not email or store your username and password in an unsecured location. • When connecting to a Windows server, use Remote Desktop Connection • Remember to select “Log Off” when done with a Remote Desktop Connection session because the session will continue to run if you don’t. • Only 2 connections allowed on each server- only stay connected when you need to. • For all servers (including Rackspace), must be on-campus or over VPN to connect • You can connect via VPN to tunnel.tc.columbia.edu with your domain username and password, and then remote connect.

  7. New Developments • For new applications developed, please use development servers • Awareness of increase in SQL Injection attacks and other types of attacks on public web applications. • When a development application is ready to be launched live, I’ll do a quick review to ensure there are no obvious security vulnerabilities, and then it can be moved to a production server. • If you need to upgrade a application used by another applications (e.g., PHP, MySQL) and it may have repercussions on other applications, please let me know and we can try out the upgrades on a development server first.

  8. Supporting Existing Applications • Please try out any changes on a development server first before rolling out onto production server. • Priority is uptime, do not restart or bring down any servers during 8AM-12AM, unless absolutely necessary. • Restart should be scheduled for very early morning (3AM, etc.)

  9. FERPA • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act • Do not share any student data or take off-campus/download for any reason (e.g., laptops) • Please contact me if you have any questions about FERPA
