Meeting With a Counselor is Easy… • Call the Guidance office to schedule a parent/teacher conference with all teachers or speak with your counselor directly. • Students should meet with their counselor at least 2 times this year! • Students may come to the Guidance Office before school, during lunch, or after school to make an appointment with their counselor. • Remember…Ms. Barber is also available in the Career Center!
College and Career Center • Learn about educational opportunities after graduation from high school. • Discover career information – just ask! Use the computers for career and post- secondary school searches. • Access financial aid & scholarship information – Check Prep HQ! • Learn how Prep HQ can help you. Find answers: NCAA Clearinghouse, college visits, applications, transcripts.

FCAT!! A Very Important Year Your child will take the Writing FCAT on February 9th FCAT Reading will be on March 9th FCAT Math will be on March 10th REMEMBER: Your child must pass the grade 10 FCAT in order to receive their diploma There are options is your child is not successful with the FCAT

The Search for the Green • Community service – Remember to document hours earned - Bright Futures FAS requires 75 hours. • If your child is planning to play sports in college? What is Prep HQ? PrepHQ is a versatile set of Internet-based tools to enhance high school guidance and make college and career preparation more effective. With PrepHQ, high schools can: Communicate with students and parents quickly and effectively Easily develop a scholarship database with local, regional and national information Build a thorough college and career prep database Track status and outcomes of applications and scholarships Publicize college events and monitor event registration Report and analyze school-specific data Conduct on-line surveys
What is Choices? • CHOICES is a career exploration and information system that allows you to: • Assess your child’s interests and abilities; • Match your child’s interests and needs to over 650 careers: • View detailed occupational profiles; • See 300 one-minute video clips; and, build a portfolio to help your child keep track of their resume and letters. • In order to get into Choices, your child should give a “0” as their student ID# and do not list an email

What Should Your Child Be Doing This Year? ** Get to know their guidance counselor. ** Take the PSAT ** Take classes that meet graduation and college admission requirements ** Get involved both in and out of school. Join a club, sports team or volunteer Prove they are a leader and a well- rounded student. ** Be on the *CollegeTrack." Look into taking Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment ** Don't slack in the grade department. Freshman and sophomore grades are the foundation of their GPA, which factor into college admissions and scholarship awards ** Have them get on PrepHQ and check your e-pep account and their bright future's status, as well as, announcements.
