The Arab Spring is the protests and demonstrations in the Arab world In Libya, the protests began in mid-February of 2011. Protesters were warned. The protests turned into an armed conflict killing several thousand.
NATO started assisting the rebels in bombing government forces. It ended with the death of colonel Moammar el-Gadhafi in October of 2011.
Libya’s national assemy elected Ali Zeidan, as prime minister. he country’s first free national election for a new parliament held in July.
Libya still faces challenges. The french have admitted to giving them weapons,. Also, France, the US, and the UK had a bombing campaign.
The UN Security Council worked towards helping protect civilians. The Arab League has given its full support of the National Transitional Council (or NTC).
Right now the U.S. is helping to create a commando force in Libya to fight against Islamic Extremists. The goal of this plan is to enhance Libya’s ability to combat and defend against threats from Al Qaeda and its affiliates.
