  2. 2013 POSITION – PRIOR TO CONFIRMATION • Applications up by 2.9% (excluding Nursing & Midwifery) • Overall UF, CF and CI choices up by +1.1% (101) • NI & EU UF – down by 12 (-4.0%) CF – up by 73 (+1.4%) CI – up by 59 (+2.2%) • Offers held by NI & EU applicants reflected application levels

  3. 2013 INTAKE TO QUEEN’S • Separate quotas for NI & EU, GB and International • Increase in places for NI & EU students • Overall Number Control for Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing & Midwifery and Social Work • Target intake:

  4. 2013 INTAKE • More decisions made by A-level results day • Current situation less fluid – fewer outstanding replies • Projected NI & EU intake on target including Nursing & Midwifery • GB increase of over 10% (approx 230) • Adjustment – net gain, numbers small • Clearing – higher numbers accepted – accounted for by Nursing & Midwifery (reserve list) • Intake quota adjusted in some areas to reflect demand for courses and academic plans

INTAKE QUALITY Quality good overall – some flexibility • Additional places • Higher asking grades • Reduction in percentage of candidates awarded A and A* grades (-2.6%) Similar situation at many universities Parameters used in borderline cases • Alternative offer – 3 A-levels plus 4th AS-level • Changed Course offers • Performance in relevant subjects NB In a significant number of areas, the flexibility exercised was only possible as a result of an increase in the numbers admitted.
