  2. Hazards and Risks • A hazard is anything with the potential to cause harm • Harm can range from minor, e.g., paper cuts to major, e.g., death • Some harm has to be reported and all incidents in which harm has occurred needs to be recorded to improve H&S practice

  3. Hazards and Risks • Risk is the likelihood that a harm will occur • In recording the number of times accidents have occurred it is possible to accurately assess the true risk – like the odds of a horse winning a race or the chance of getting an ace in cards
