The boarding school № 4 was opened in 1956 by the decision of the government heads of the Soviet Union and India. • In 1957 began a deep study of the Hindi language. This event was timed to the 10th anniversary of India's independence. • Since 1991, the school introduced the deep study of English. Since June 1993, secondary boarding school № 4 was reorganized to the school № 653 with profound study of Hindi and English after the order of the educational Committee of the city administration of Saint Petersburg. In 2000, the boarding system was deformed. The school building was closed for reconstruction from 2008 to 2010. It was opened on September 1, 2010. Now the school includes a KG section. Also two new gym halls and two swimming pools were introduced. The school has a library, a linguistics cabinet, videoconferencing equipment and LAN. All classrooms are equipped with multimedia facilities and interactive whiteboards. The classrooms of chemistry, physics, music, school hall are equipped with latest technologies.
The feature of the educational process of our school is the teaching of two foreign languages. The school has 550 students from 1st to 11th standards taught by 45 teachers.
KG section was inaugurated on 1st Sept. 2010, including four groups (20 students in each group).

The school strengthens the friendly relations between Russia and India, by teaching the language and culture of India. • School is a collective member of the Association of international cooperation (Indo-Russian friendship society), maintains cooperation with the Consulate General of the Indian Republic, Oriental faculty of St. Petersburg State University.
