  3. About “GURUDEV” Rabindranath Tagore was a bengali poet. (1861-1941). Popularity of poetry also grew in this period. Rabindranath Tagore was a celebrated poet, novelist, short-story writer, dramatist, essayist and literary critic all rolled into one.

  4. His Works Gurudev was awarded a nobel prize for his work “Gitanjali” (Song of the offerings). He founded Viswabharathi University which is also known as Shantiniketan. His Jana Gana Mana was adopted as National Anthem. Tagore’s best known novels and poetry includes Gora, Seser kavitha,Ghare baire, The Gardner, The Crescent Moon, Songs of Kabir etc.

  5. Tagore Dance • Rabindranath Tagore contributed a lot for the development of Indian Classical dance. He invited experts in different Classical Dance forms to study and perform at the vishwa bharathi university. Tagore himself involved a new dance form called Rabindra Nritya or Tagore Dance.

  6. Paintings • Rabindranath Tagore was one of the most famous Indian Painters. A new school of painting called the Bengal School, was founded by his brother (Abanindranath Tagore).

Tagore Wrote • I wish to keep my students away from all the luxuries of european life and any blind infatuation and thus,lead them in the ways of the sacred and unsullied Indian tradition..I have it in mind to make shantiniketan the connecting thread between India and the world.I want to make this (shantiniketan) place some what beyond the limits of nations and geography.
